July 2007:

I know it has rained alot this summer, there is lots of fresh water run off. But it has not hurt the fishing. Fishing has been great for redsnapper, ling, kingfish, and dorado.
Most of my trips have been out 8 to 25 miles from the jetty. Been catching easy limits of snapper and kingfish, with some ling and dorado.
Tuna, wahoo, ling and dorado are showing up around the deep water shrimp boats.
Fished a deep water trip recently catching some blackfin tuna, 4 wahoo, 2 ling, and a nice bull dorado.

Fished yesterday , 40 to 60 miles from Freeport.
Fished shrimp boats in 200 feet of water. Lots of kingfish to 25 lbs, good dorado with 1 nice bull around 25 lbs. Also trolled weed lines and got 4 wahoo up to 25 lbs. Shrimp boats are holding lots of bonita, and a few nice blackfin. We only got 1 blackfin. Also caught a few nice ling under the boats.
Inshore for snapper is outstanding, also good ling and kings around the platforms.

October 2006 :
* Summer has come and gone, but the fall fishing is still good.
* Red snapper and kingfish are still good, we are catching them at the rigs and reefs as close in as 9 miles from land, along with sharks and cobia. The amberjacks and dorado will also be out in the deeper waters.
* The bullred action has really heated up as the water has cooled down to 78 degrees. * On these bullred trips it is common to catch over 20 fish per trip. These fish are 25 to 30 lbs , and up to 48 inches in length. The bullred trips are half day or full day, and are very affordable. Check rate page for pricing. * You must have a saltwater stamp and license to fish for these fish.

* Bay fishing will only get better as the water cools down. The flounder will start moving as the cool fronts keep coming in. Trout and redfish will be on the reefs in the bays and under the birds. Soft plastics and live bait will be the key !
